INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis man faces neglect and other charges after police say his 2-year-old son was seriously injured when the man's car crashed during a drag race.
Twenty-five-year-old Valentine Duran-Ciprian was being held without bond in the Marion County Jail on initial charges including neglect, criminal recklessness and engaging in a speed contest. He was arrested Saturday after his car collided with an oncoming vehicle during an alleged drag race, leaving him with head wounds.
Police say the boy was on the car's front passenger seat not sitting in a child car seat when the cars collided. The boy was hospitalized with bruised lungs and cuts to his head and legs.
Indiana law requires car seats or booster seats for children younger than age 8.
