MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police say a trooper has been injured by a driver who fled on foot before being captured.
Authorities say Sgt. Dwayne Dillahunty's injuries were not life-threatening.
Dillahunty was standing outside his cruiser on the inner shoulder of eastbound Interstate I80/94 timing vehicles about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when police say an SUV went off the road and struck his car. The cruiser then struck Dillahunty, knocking him into the concrete median barrier wall.
Police say the SUV's driver, 43-year-old Norris Benbow of Chicago, fled on foot but was caught by Munster police just south of the interstate.
Authorities say Benbow was being held at Lake County Jail on several charges after he tested positive for alcohol above Indiana's legal limit.
It wasn't clear whether Benbow had an attorney.
