SHELBYVILLE, Ind. Central Indiana police say a 21-year-old man found tied up in his home lied to officers when he told them he was the victim of a home invasion.

Shelbyville police responded Friday to a call about a possible assault in the city about 25 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

WISH-TV reports officers found the man tied up at the residence. But he later told detectives he fabricated the story and that no home invasion or assault had taken place.

The case has been sent to the Shelby County Prosecutor's office for review. Officials say the Shelbyville Police Department has requested that charges be filed because officers spent significant resources on the case.
