VALPARAISO, Ind. An Indiana man is helping battle a massive wildfire that has spread across more than 106,000 acres in Idaho.

Thirty-one-year-old Evan Jones of Valparaiso is part of a 20-member team fighting the Beaver Creek Fire. More than 1,700 emergency workers are at the scene.

The Times reports Jones arrived Aug. 9 and will stay two weeks. He's working 16-hour days to ensure new fires don't start and that the original blaze is contained.

He says the hardest part of battling a wildfire is finding the best place to stop the fire because there is so much space for it to continue growing.

Jones is an Indiana University graduate and is part of an Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore crew that handles prescribed fires during the spring and fall.
