WABASH, Ind. A former bookkeeper with a northern Indiana county's clerk's office faces theft and other charges for allegedly stealing about $75,000 from office accounts.
Forty-four-year-old Sara Chamberlain of Urbana was arrested Friday on three counts of theft, one count of official misconduct and one count of corrupt business influence. She was released from the Wabash County Jail after posting bond.
The Journal Gazette reports Indiana State Police say their investigation began in September after a State Board of Accounts audit indicated that funds were missing in accounts controlled by the clerk's office.
Police say it's believed Chamberlain misrepresented the dollar amounts of fees paid to the clerk's office and deposited some of the money into her personal bank account.
