Ind. child services agency announces spending

The Indiana Department of Child Services says it will reallocate nearly $38 million to existing programs over the next three years and give a new program $10 million instead of returning that money to the state general fund.

Agency spokeswoman Stephanie McFarland says the agency will return about $16 million to the general fund for the fiscal year that ends Saturday, compared with $104 million reverted a year ago.

DCS also will allocate $10 million to establish a program serving older foster youth and spend $12.6 million over each of the next three years on five programs. A program that helps families who need help providing safe and stable living environments will get more than $5 million per year and one serving high-risk families will get $2 million per year.
