A Fort Wayne man convicted of child molestation and other charges for abusing two young boys has been sentenced to 61 years in prison.

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull told 27-year-old Michael A. Combs on Friday he had preyed on "helpless little children" left in his care.

The Journal Gazette reports that a jury convicted Combs of child molesting, battery and neglect of a dependent involving two boys who were ages 15 months and two when the alleged abuse occurred in late summer 2010.

Fort Wayne Police Detective Sandon Quate testified during Friday's sentencing hearing that the boys "went through hell" as Combs physically and sexually abused them.

Combs' sister and his former girlfriend were both convicted of neglect charges stemming from the case.
