CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) A northern Indiana man convicted in the slaying of a former schoolteacher could face life in prison without parole when he's sentenced next month.

A Lake Criminal Court jury convicted Robert Lewis II in the sexual assault and killing of 37-year-old Jennifer Kocsis. But jurors couldn't reach a unanimous decision Friday on whether the 40-year-old Gary man should receive life in prison without parole.

The Times of Munster reports that Judge Diane Boswell will instead determine Lewis' sentence. She has set his sentencing for Nov. 25.

Kocsis was slain in April 2011 after she agreed to give Lewis a ride from a Griffith bar-restaurant. She was a former Griffith schoolteacher.
