Volunteers have spruced up the forgotten headstone of a Medal of Honor recipient from the Civil War in a northern Indiana cemetery.

The headstone in Elkhart's Grace Lawn Cemetery shows that Capt. Orville Tyron Chamberlain died in 1929. Jack Sanders tells The Elkhart Truth (http://bit.ly/QkBTG8 ) he noticed Chamberlain's headstone and its recognition of him receiving the nation's highest military honor during a walk around the cemetery.

Sanders and others have worked to clean and brighten Chamberlain's faded headstone ahead of cemetery tours set for Saturday. That event features Elkhart Civic Theatre actors portraying some people who are buried there.

Volunteer Bill Faus says they hope to fix up the gravesites of other veterans dating back to the Civil War and the Spanish-American War, but that Chamberlain's was the priority.
