Gov. Mike Pence is surveying flood damage in three central Indiana communities swamped with floodwaters following torrential rains.
Pence flew by State Police helicopter early Saturday afternoon to Kokomo, where he was greeted by the city's mayor and U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks.
Pence spokeswoman Christy Denault says Brooks will fly with the governor to Tipton and then Elwood. The pair will meet with the mayors of both of those two cities.
Denault says Pence's visit to the three communities is the first step toward determining if a disaster declaration might be needed after between three and five inches of rain fell across parts of the state Thursday.
A Hamilton County man died Friday and a second man remained missing Saturday after floodwaters swept away their vehicles.
