The debate about whether or not alcohol should be sold on Sundays in Indiana has returned to the state legislature.
The Indiana House of Representative’s Public Policy Committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday to discuss a bill that calls for a lift on the state’s Sunday retail ban.
Indiana is currently the last state in the nation to not allow for retailers to sell alcohol on Sundays. Supporters of the bill say the ban costs the state an estimated $9 million in lost tax revenue.
But, many package liquor stores argue that the cost of opening on Sundays would make it impossible for them to compete with big supermarket chains in the state for business on the extra day.
