The City of South Bend wants to widen the net for bids and city contracts with minority and women-owned businesses. The inaugural Breaking down Barriers Event was held Thursday morning at the Century Center.
City departments were on hand to talk about what kinds of contracts and services the city usually purchases. They can range from $5,000 to more than $75,000. Those who own businesses in South Bend said they learned a lot from the day.
“I came out to hopefully bridge the gap between some of the opportunities that are here in South Bend and minority-owned businesses like myself,” said Paul Black an attendee of the Breaking down Barriers Event. “A lot of times it's a mystery and sometimes it seems a little unachievable.”
More than one hundred people attended Thursday's inaugural event.
