Italian scientists have honored an Indiana University professor for his pioneering work in the field of chemical analysis.
The Italian Chemical Society recently presented IU chemistry professor Milos Novotny with its Giorgio Nota Award. He received the award during a symposium in Italy where Novotny delivered a lecture to about 800 people that touched on cancer research and the importance of chemical analysis in biomedical research.
Novotny was born in the former Czechoslovakia. He's been a
pivotal figure for more than 40 years in the development of methods
for separating and analyzing the components of complex biological
mixtures. He's also an adjunct professor of medicine at the IU
School of Medicine.
Novotny is known for identifying the first mammalian pheromones,
which are scents released by animals.
