State Police have reopened all northbound lanes of Interstate 65 in northern Indiana following a series of crashes that killed one man and injured six other people.

Sgt. Dan Leslie of the Lowell post says fog and smoke from a burning dairy barn that reduced visibility along the highway caused three crashes Saturday morning involving about 20 vehicles some 50 miles southeast of Chicago.

Police shut down all of I-65's lanes south of Roselawn in Jasper County following the accidents. Southbound lanes were closed about three hours, while it took more than seven hours for all northbound lanes to be cleared and reopened.

Sixty-nine-year-old Richard J. Swan of Frankfort, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene following one crash.
