Hundreds attend Elkhart ArtWalk to benefit girl with cancer

Elkhart, Ind. The Elkhart community is turning to art as they rally around a local teen fighting cancer.

More than 600 people stopped by the downtown area for Elkhart's ArtWalk.

It's an initiative to showcase local artists inside different storefronts.

But on Wednesday, 15-year-old Sarah Crane was in the spotlight as she battles stage four colon cancer.

ArtWalk organizers placed a large canvas in Elkhart's Civic Plaza, and participants who donated at least $1 could dip their fists in purple paint and then put their imprint on the canvas.

“People want to give, children want to know what they can do, how can we participate in the campaign,” said organizer Renee Robinson. “This is something that little kids were able to do. So all of the donations and the canvas will go to the Crane family.”

ArtWalk partnered with a local artist for the community project.
