Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma is slowly getting back up to speed following emergency surgery on his knee.

Bosma said Thursday that his doctor removed 30 staples from his knee the previous evening during a "house call" at his Statehouse office.

The Indianapolis Republican missed five days of Indiana House sessions earlier this month after doctors performed emergency surgery for a knee replacement he had done last year. He returned to work last week.

Bosma noted it was the first time he had missed a session day in 27 years.
