The leader of the Indiana House has been talking from the hospital with other senior Republicans as he recovers from surgery for a knee infection.

Republican Speaker Brian Bosma's staff says he underwent surgery Tuesday after the infection developed from an artificial knee replacement performed last summer.

Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner says he spoke with Bosma for about 40 minutes Thursday morning about several issues pending in the General Assembly as it approaches its deadline to adjourn in a few weeks.

Turner says Bosma is pleased with his recovery and expects to return home Friday or Saturday. He might remain away from the Statehouse for at least another week.
