TERRE HAUTE, Ind. A semitrailer carrying hazardous materials has overturned on Interstate 70 near the Illinois state line, closing eastbound lanes for hours to clean up the mess.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts says the eastbound lanes were expected to remain closed until Thursday evening. Eastbound traffic is being rerouted on U.S. 40 through Terre Haute.

Watts says the crash occurred shortly before noon and sent about 20 containers of the hazardous waste into a ditch, with some breaking open and spilling their contents, possibly weed killer.

Watts says the crash isn't expected to pose a danger to nearby residents.

Watts says the driver suffered a minor hand injury and was treated and released from a hospital.
