The owner of an Indianapolis gun store says a customer with a rented gun opened fire on a clerk before the employee returned fire, killing the customer.
Don Davis of Don's Guns and Galleries tells The Indianapolis Star that employee Ben Chance is in critical condition at an Indianapolis hospital but expected to survive.
Indianapolis police say the other person shot died at the scene near Lafayette Square Mall on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
Davis says a man in his 30s came into the store and rented a gun. Moments later, without saying anything and without any apparent reason, the customer fired two shots, striking Chance.
Davis defends Chance's actions.
Police haven't identified the slain man. They have no immediate comment on Davis' account of the incident.
