Gun prank backfires in fatal shooting of Indy teen

Indianapolis police says two teenagers were trying to scare a friend as a prank when one shot him in the neck.

Police say 14-year-old Nicholas King died at the scene of the shooting Tuesday night on the city's southeast side.

Detectives say 18-year-old Kevin Edwards brought a rifle into a home and was allowing a 15-year-old to handle the weapon when King knocked on the door about 8 p.m. Witnesses tell investigators the two ran to the door, and the 15-year-old pointed the weapon at King and pulled the trigger.

Police say Edwards has been arrested on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness. Jail records don't indicate if he has an attorney.

The 15-year-old old faces a charge of reckless homicide and has been sent to a juvenile holding facility.
