Elkhart County takes to the ice Friday for a night of skating and helping the hungry.
According to Church Community Services, one in four Elkhart County children and 17 percent of the community do not have enough food. More than 2,300 households seek food assistance from CCS every month, and the organization is hosting an event to help cover the costs.
The Great Skate for Hunger is similar to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in that participants can create teams and collect donations leading up to the event.
However individuals can also skate if they pledge 30 dollars the night of the event.
Those who want to contribute, but don’t want to skate can still make a donation.
The event runs from 6 to midnight at NIBCO Water and Ice Park in downtown Elkhart.
