A Granger resident has been elected the new tribal chairman of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians.

John Warren was sworn in on Saturday.

He was elected over eight other candidates in a special election, caused by the retirement of the former tribal chair, Matt Wesaw.

Warren automatically becomes the CEO and chairperson of the Pokagon Gaming Authority Board.

Warren was born and raised in South Bend, and was previously the tribe's treasurer.
