Utility investigators say a gas line break caused an explosion that destroyed a vacant Indianapolis home.
Fire officials say the explosion about 12:30 a.m. Thursday tossed debris as far as two blocks away in a neighborhood just west of the city's downtown. The house was being renovated after a fire over the summer.
The Indianapolis fire department reports no injuries. Firefighters briefly evacuated nearby homes until workers for Citizens Energy could shut off natural gas service.
The explosion blew off the home's roof and left only a couple walls standing. Contractor Cherie Klawun tells WISH-TV that investigators believe thieves cut gas and water lines to steal copper pipes. She says metal thieves have burglarized the house three times.
