Pence declared victory in Tuesday's election, saying voters backed his message of building on outgoing Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels' policies for greater economic growth in the state.

Pence trailed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney by a significant margin among Indiana voters in Tuesday's election but still defeated Democrat John Gregg and Libertarian Rupert Boneham.

Pence has been in Congress for the past 12 years, gaining national prominence as a social conservative. But he focused his campaign on economic issues and brushed off attacks that he'll push contentious social issues.
