Funeral arrangements have been set for Shirley Mundia, the 6-year-old girl stabbed to death by her father exactly one week ago.
Police were called out to building 4252 at the Irish Hills apartment complex in South Bend just after 5 a.m. last Sunday to settle a domestic violence dispute.
There they found Shirley's mother, Lucy Mundia, 32, covered in blood outside the apartment.
Police were forced to knock down the apartment door. They entered to find 33-year-old Edward Mwaura stabbing his young daughter over and over.
Officers shot and killed Mwaura. Shirley was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she was pronounced dead.
Family, friends and the community gathered to honor and remember Shirley last Wednesday with a vigil at the apartment complex where she died.
This upcoming weekend they'll remember her once again. Shirley's viewing will take place next Saturday, June 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Alford's Mortuary in South Bend. A memorial service will immediately follow the viewing. It will be held at the Pentecostal Cathedral on Western Ave. in South Bend.
Shirley’s body will be transported back to Kenya for burial.
An on-site prayer ministry will hold a vigil for Mundia this Thursday, June 13th at 5:30 p.m. The vigil will be held in the parking lot of the Kern Road Mennonite Church at 18211 Kern Road, between Ironwood and Miami in South Bend. Rev. Tina will be leading the vigil.
