Free services available to homeless vets on Thursday in South Bend

Community partners in Michiana are collaborating to provide relief to service men and women and homeless veterans in the area.

"Operation Stand Down" is coordinated by various community agencies that serve the homeless and veterans. The event is happening on Thursday.

The event is meant to recognize the services from area veterans by providing necessary relief to homeless service members and their famililes. Free services include VA eligibility information, VA social security benefit counseling, mental health services, housing assistance, employment counseling, health screenings, dental information, flu shots, haircuts, socks, hats, gloves, towels and personal hygiene items.

Stand Down will take place on Western Avenue between the VA Clinic and Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
