FRANKLIN, Ind. A Franklin group that works to prevent people from becoming homeless has closed because of declining donations that left it unable to help itself.

Christian Help Inc. director LaTheda Noonan tells the Daily Journal that the drop in donations left the organization unable to pay its rent at a time when more people needed help.

The group had worked for 11 years to provide help with rent and utility bills and find hotels to serve as temporary shelter for the homeless or those at risk. It also connected people with resources within the community.

Noonan says part of the group's struggle stems from residents' failure to recognize that homelessness is a problem in Johnson County because the homeless don't live on the streets like they do in Indianapolis.
