Mishawaka We have entered a new year and that means we all have some new year’s resolutions we want to keep. A big one for many is eating healthy. So, we have some inexpensive ways for you to make a few dishes.

Martin's supermarkets chef, Chef Ora, tells us chicken is now a staple in the kitchen. He says due to the summer drought we had in 2012, farmers had to reduce their herds due to the lack of feed. As a response chicken and beef prices went up.

Now, he says chicken prices are finally down making it the center piece of most dishes. Chicken is a healthy protein especially if you remove the skin and there are some ways to change up your chicken so you don't get bored.

Chef Ora recommends using ginger, sriracha or sweet things like honey, maple syrup or brown sugar based sauces. When it comes to seasoning he recommends always starting with salt and pepper and maybe one other spice and your set.

He says when you try to mix too many flavors you begin to lose some of that taste. If you're a busy parent, there are still ways to get healthy food on your table

“Depending on your schedule of course, that is the challenge, is working around your schedule,” explains Martin’s Supermarkets Corporate Chef, Chef Ora Smith. “Maybe the answer is you can have something crock pot ready that you set in the morning and you get home and it’s ready to eat. Maybe it’s putting it in a pan that’s ready to throw in the oven when you get home. Maybe it’s something that was cooked for reheat the next day or that evening. Depending what exactly your challenges are, again you can combine techniques to get you to where your end game needs to be”.
