Indiana conservation officers are investigating the apparent drowning of a Fort Wayne man on a northeastern Indiana lake.
Officers say 29-year-old James Beck was swimming Saturday afternoon to a floating raft on Old Lake when his girlfriend spotted him struggling. She swam out to help him, but she couldn't hold onto him as he struggled, and he disappeared under the surface of the water. Officers and divers recovered his body about seven hours later in 20 feet of water.
Officers say the preliminary results from an autopsy Sunday were consistent with an accidental drowning.
Officers haven't identified Beck's girlfriend.
The lake is about 25 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.
