Former S. Ind. mayor faces drug-related charge

A former mayor of a southern Indiana city has been charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Former Bedford Mayor Joe Klumpp declined comment to The Times Mail on Friday. The Associated Press couldn't reach him later Friday because no phone number was listed for him.

Klumpp was elected mayor of the city of 13,000 in 2004 and served one term.

Details of the charge filed in neighboring Monroe County Tuesday weren't available. Klumpp waived an initial hearing The next hearing was scheduled for May 30.

If convicted, Klumpp could face up to one year in jail and be fined up to $5,000.

Klumpp also is current director of the Bedford Housing Authority.
