GOSHEN, Ind. - The Amish are a very giving part of our community, and during the next nine days, they will be helping feed the world.

Over 1,000 people will be helping out at the Mennonite Central Committee Mobile Meat Canner in Goshen.

They will be cutting turkey to be canned. Dan Beachy, 91, has been volunteering to cut meat for over 60 years.

In just nine days, the group will can 78,000 pounds of turkey in 45,000 cans which will then be given to those in Haiti, Bosnia and Ukraine.

“(It) makes me feel real good to see these volunteers come together to cut up meat and they're all doing what the bible commands to feed the hungry,” said Stanley Pletcher, chairman of the canning committee. “We can’t all go overseas but we can do what we can in Goshen, Indiana to feed the hungry.”

Donations cover a big part of the canning operation.
