Fire at iconic Buchanan building burns roof

A longtime Buchanan business being prepped for demolition caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at the Old Clark equipment site on River Street around 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters tell us workers were cutting pipes with a torch when dried out roofing caught fire.

The fire department prepared for a large fire in case the flames spread but thankfully that didn't happen.

Some of the buildings on the site have already been torn down.

The business had been a fixture in Buchanan since the late 1800's but it closed about a decade ago when it was known as Buchanan Industries.
