A field fire in rural south-central Indiana forced the nearly seven-hour-long closure of a state highway as crews battled to douse the flames.

Mike Ellis of the Paragon Volunteer Fire Department tells WISH-TV that firefighters face a difficult task combatting Monday's hay field fire because the nearest fire hydrant was six miles away.

State Road 67 in Morgan County was shut down for nearly seven hours while crews trucked in water in near 100-degree temperatures.

The fire started about 5 p.m. Monday when an electrical wire broke and fell onto bales of hay. Crews had to use heavy equipment to break up the burning hay bales as they doused the flames.
