Former Myanmar residents resettled in the Fort Wayne area are protesting sectarian violence in their Southeast Asian homeland.

About 100 resettled refugees demonstrated Sunday at the Allen County Courthouse in Fort Wayne.

Ex-refugee AyeMin Zaphun tells WANE-TV (http://bit.ly/Z1OFPZ ) the protest was called to spread awareness about the Myanmar government and extremist Buddhists who are targeting Muslims in their homeland.

Dozens of people were killed last month when violence between Buddhists and minority Muslims shook the central Myanmar city of Meikhtila. A predawn fire Tuesday at a religious dormitory linked to a mosque killed 13 children. Authorities blamed the fire on an electrical short circuit but some Muslims say the fire was set intentionally.

Fort Wayne has one of the largest U.S. populations of resettled Myanmar refugees.
