Former Indiana gubernatorial candidate Jim Wallace faces a felony domestic violence charge.

Fishers police say Wallace was arrested Sunday night after allegedly grabbing his wife by the neck and throwing her against a wall at their home northeast of Indianapolis. She didn't require medical attention.

The Hamilton County Jail, where Wallace was incarcerated, says he appeared in court for an initial hearing on the charge Monday afternoon.

A message seeking comment was left on his cellphone.

The Indianapolis Star reports Wallace was arrested for intimidation during a dispute with an ex-wife in 2004. That charge was dismissed as part of a pretrial diversion program.

Wallace dropped his bid for the Republican nomination for governor in March after being denied a spot on the ballot for not having enough signatures.
