The city of Elkhart is due to release its 2013 budget tonight. Earlier this month about 1.9 million dollars in cuts were proposed at city budget meetings, the final decisions about the proposed cuts will be made at tonight’s city council meeting.
Elkhart mayor Dick Moore introduced his own proposal which includes several cuts to the annual jazz festival, the municipal band, and closing and selling the city golf course. Moore also proposed cutting seven city positions and furloughs for city workers in an attempt to reduce spending.
Tonight's council meeting will be held at seven in the municipal building.
