ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. Misuse of painkiller patches --containing the drug fentanyl-- is worrying Elkhart County law enforcement.

The patches are meant to be absorbed on the skin over several days for people with chronic pain.

Since 2007, 11 people have died from eating the packets.

Others have used syringes to inject the packets' contents.

According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth, 60 percent of abusers had a prescription for the packet.

The painkiller can become even more deadly when combined with other drugs in a person's system.
