MISHAWAKA An elementary school went on a brief lockdown Tuesday afternoon because of shots fired nearby.

Students at Fred J. Hums Elementary in Mishawaka were at recess when it happened, according to Michiana’s News Channel. They were taken back inside while police checked the area of Blackberry and Harrison roads.

Police couldn't find anything and believe the gunshots may have been from nearby hunters. The lockdown was lifted after about an hour.
