SOUTH BEND, Ind. A proposal to build a seven story apartment building in downtown South Bend was unanimously rejected Wednesday.
The East Bank Flats project had earlier been approved at a height of five stories.
What was turned down Wednesday was a request to add two additional floors.
The request was denied unanimously by the St. Joseph County Board of Zoning Appeals, after objections were voiced by residents living in another project--built by the same developer.
“There was a significant amount of remonstrators from the surrounding area particularly in the east bank town homes facility that were against that petition,” said Joe Velleman, Chairman, St. Joseph County Area Board of Zoning Appeals. “It would cause them some undue hardship in this case we decided to side with them, and deny his petition at this time.”
