SOUTH BEND Members of the Environmental Protection Agency are visiting Michiana to share more information about a local park that has been deemed a safety hazard.
Last month, the EPA said they'd found high levels of arsenic in Beck's Lake and LaSalle Park. They're now considering adding the area to a federal superfund list.
The area was used as a dump ground until the mid-1950’s, but the pollution is just now being recognized as a problem because of a new housing unit in the area.
The EPA and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management are holding two open houses Thursday for community members to come in and ask questions about their findings. There will not be a formal presentation.
The open house runs from 1 to 4, and 5 to 8, at the Charles Black Recreation Center, located at 419 W. Washington Street in South Bend.
