Driver killed going wrong-way on NW Ind. highway

State police say a driver going the wrong way on a northwestern Indiana highway was killed when his pickup truck crashed head-on with a semitrailer.

Police say 35-year-old Timothy Leib of Hobart was going west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80/94 near I-65 in Gary when the crash happened about 1:30 a.m. Friday. Leib was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators didn't immediately know where Leib entered the highway. Toxicology tests were planned to determine whether alcohol was involved.

Police say the crash caused heavy front end damage to the semi and spread debris over more than 250 feet of the highway's lanes. The semi driver wasn't hurt.
