Christmas is coming a little early for about 35 families, who were selected for St. Joseph County's annual Christmas with a Cop program.
Every year, officers take kids shopping for toys, clothes and presents they otherwise wouldn't get.
"This is by far one of our favorite times of the year where we can come out and help local children who need assistance this holiday season," said Sgt. William Redman.
The kids started the night with a special meal at Burger King on Grape Road, where they took pictures with Santa and enjoyed some free food.
Then, they drove to the Meijer on Portage Road in squad cars, which set off their lights and sirens.
Once they got to Meijer, the kids went through the store with officers to pick out gifts.
"I got a lot of stuff for drawing and a coat," said 11-year-old Santiago Trevino.
Other children had something else at the top of their list -- gifts for members of their family.
11-year-old Tevaujhn Columbus filled his cart up with goodies for others before picking anything out for himself.
"My nephew he likes sports, basketball, so I got him a bouncy ball," he said. "And, my mom likes jewelry, so I got her a necklace."
Most of the money for the annual shopping trip is raised through fundraisers hosted by FOP Lodge #155.
Meijer and Quality Dining also make large contributions.
