Downtown Indy adds security to curb youth violence

Police plan to set up metal detectors at the entrances of a mall in downtown Indianapolis and put more officers on the streets in response to recent violence by unsupervised teenagers.

WRTV-TV reported Friday that the added security measures will begin this weekend at the Circle Centre Mall.

Unsupervised youth who are not immediately picked up when they leave the mall will be told either to board a bus or go to a monitored site to await their ride home.

The extra security comes after a youth fired a gun Saturday night near the mall, which has been the focus of repeated disruption. A shooting in July 2010 injured 10 young people during the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration.
