Dog feared dead in house fire

SOUTH BEND A house caught fire in one of South Bend's west side neighborhoods. Residents weren't home at the time, but it's believed a dog inside may have died.

Dozens of people lined up alongside the house near the intersection of Ford and Albert late Tuesday afternoon.

It was filled with smoke and a small fire when first responders arrived to the scene. Firefighters said they attempted to revive the dog, but had no further information.

Officials suspect the fire originated from the kitchen, but an exact cause is under investigation.
