Terre Haute area students will see more police presence inside their schools Monday following the massacre of 26 children and adults at a Connecticut school.

The Terre Haute Tribune-Star reported Saturday the Vigo County Sheriff Department will resume foot patrols inside middle and elementary schools to complement law enforcement already in the western Indiana county's three high schools.

Detective. 1st Sgt. Frank Shahadey says at least 10 officers already work inside Vigo County schools on any given day.

Indianapolis school-safety consultant Chuck Hibbert tells The Indianapolis Star many private and charter Indiana schools lack the resources to implement safety steps such as security officers and auto-locking doors.

Several school officials across Indiana say incidents like Friday's shootings prompt them to review their safety procedures to ensure they're up to date.
