An investor group is taking over the site of a closed Lafayette hospital with what officials say are plans to tear it down and hire a developer for the property.
The former Home Hospital has been vacant for 10 months since the last of its units moved following the opening of the new $196 million St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.
The Journal & Courier reports Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health officials have signed a contract to transfer ownership of the 20-acre site near the city's downtown to Columbian Park Redevelopment of Indianapolis.
Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski says he hopes for single-family homes and green space to fit in with the surrounding neighborhood.
An attorney for the investor group didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment Wednesday.
