Demolition crews preserve historical pieces of Elkhart Armory


A building that stood on Elkhart’s Main Street for more than a century is coming down. Demolition began Monday at the old armory.

ELKHART A building that stood on Elkhart’s Main Street for more than a century is coming down. Demolition began Monday at the old armory.

The Elkhart Truth reports that demolition crews are saving some of the more unique elements of the building, including two cornerstones and a stone engraved with the words “Elkhart Armory.”

Demolition will last through late September, and then the city will look for investors to redevelop the land.
