SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- A truck perilously hung over the side of the St. Joe River this afternoon after a single vehicle accident.
The accident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. this afternoon when a truck went over the curb and bridge rail next to Brown Intermediate Center on Riverside Ave.
According to David Maenhout, South Bend Fire Battalion Chief, when crews arrived they found a truck hanging off of a bridge overlooking the St. Joe River.
The driver of the vehicle was found to be conscious and breathing.
However, the truck was found to be very unstable as it hung to the edge of the bridge rail by a spring shackle after dropping nearly ten feet.
The nose of the vehicle was in the river.
Emergency personal were able to lower a basket down and retrieve the driver from the cab of the truck. He was taken to the hospital.
