A former La Porte High School volleyball coach maintains his 21-year prison sentence despite efforts to appeal.
Robert Ashcraft is convicted of having a two-year affair with a student. The student was only 14 when the affair with Ashcraft began.
Ashcraft argued that the 21-year sentence was excessive given his lack of a criminal history, his prior military service, and the fact that the victim was a willing and enthusiastic participant in the affair.
Indiana’s Court of Appeals upheld his sentence, ruling that he abused his position of authority over the girl.
