Community helps raise funds to bury slain teen

ELKHART A mother was able to bury her slain son thanks to the help of the community.

18-year-old Devonte Patrick was shot last week in the parking lot of an Elkhart church. His mother did not have the money to cover the cost of a funeral and burial.

Cobb Funeral Home held a visitation and funeral service for the teen but said they could not bury his body until they received the fees.

According to The Elkhart Truth, the Elkhart Advocates for Peace and Justice" stepped up to help, collecting donations from several businesses and individuals.
